Well at least we can all have fun with the name. Rat-zinger is too much like Grimley Wormtongue to be believable. Besides, all you catholics are after is a little unnecessary guilt anyway. Who better to dish it out than the “rat-man”. (Forgive me father for I have sinned and I’ll be back to sin again!)

Pope Benedict’s namesake number XIV: Declared that it was sinful to make a profit from lending money (to persecute Jews who had no other way to make money because only citizens could own legitimate businesses and you had to be catholic to be a citizen). Approved the founding of the Passionists and Redemptorists (think moral majority). Condemned Freemasonry and the works of Voltaire (THinking which led to the democratic governments in Europe, science, the recovery of math and produced our very fine Constitution, there could be no nation under GOd without the free-masons). Investigated whether the Jesuits were moving beyond Papal control (because jesuits train you to think. If you an keep them stupid, then you can control them. Think republican party and their education cuts).

Benedict XV, although he was a Pacifist, he was a damned lawyer and continued the canon or legal documents of Pope Pius (forget the number) which were quite backwards. No matter how much a pacifist, the real motive was likely money since the church didn’t fare so well during WWI.

Benedict the second we at last find a good pope who made it against church law for states to elect popes. Reinforcing the separation of chuch and state. So there is at least a good pope benedict.
