Rita Cosby: Most ANNOYING Anchor in News
I am typically a fan of MSNBC news. However, recently, MSNBC hired a new news anchor and gave this person her own show. God help us! I am talking about Rita Cosby.
Rita Cosby is this gal who claims that she follows people to get the "exclusive interview". She is the quintessential dirty journalist. You watch her show and all you hear is the words "exclusive", "just in", "latest video". She is over dramatic and watching her is like listening to nails on a chalk board. When you look into her background, she worked for Fox News for a number of years. Now there is a good news organization <roll eyes>. When she has people on her show and is interviewing them, she attempts to be kind and caring, but really she doesn’t give a shit and would rather cut them off from speaking so she can hear her own voice.
I hope that her ratings suck and MSNBC cuts this meat head.
Rita Cosby’s voice sounds like a pissed off Bill Parcells SCREAMING his Dallas Cowboys through a rough practice session. She has to be one of the most annoying noises to emanate from the tube with the interviewing skills of a 12 yr. old. Initially, I watched/listened to her for ~15 minutes, then switched the channel to stop the pain. Dammit, that’s 15 wasted minutes of my life that I’ll never get back…
I think Rita needs to stop smoking road flares so she can sound like a female again. Also, have you ever noticed how she constantly bobs her head when she talks. Almost like her lower jaw is stationary and the whole top of her head moves like a muppet.
you guys are right on. i’m at work right now and have msnbc on for background noise. the rita exclusive just came on where she brings wrestling superstars to military hospitals to cheer up the maimed and disabled troops. as soon as i heard her voice it was like i was paralyzed. i slipped into a daydream about smashing her face in with an aluminum bat. i’m usually a pretty tranquil guy, but she’s a stupid fat cow who always sounds like she’s talking with her mouth full. what a peice of trash, msnbc has to can her, she’s destroying their credibility. someone needs to send imus the memo. he’ll take care of her.

I am glad to know I am not the only person who cannot stand her. Not only is she annoying, I question her journalistic integrity and thus also have to question MSNBC since they hired her.

Rita was granted access to the Stanley ‘Tookie’ Williams execution. Not only will we have to listen to her during her own show, but you know she is going to stick her head in every other show too.
She sounds to me like a bellowing water buffalo. And, worse yet, her interviewing repetoire consists of addled cliches intended to show she cares but really aimed at not giving the interview a chance to tell her their story. She says things like, “Your mother just ran off with your husband, your kids are in the back room smoking crack, you must feel really lousy about yourself right now.”
I was willing to give MSNBC a chance and check out their news coverage but now I hold them all responsible for letting this imbecile have her own show. She is the poster child for the inane, irresponsible American press.

I just googled “rita cosby hate” to see what was on the web about this annoying woman and guess what? I ended up here. What a relief to know I’m not the only one that can’t stand her. I feel so much better. I too was gong to write to MSNBC, but this comment will have to suffice. She is AWFUL. The “nails on a chalkboard” comment is right on. What are they thinking?? And how ’bout her coverage the other night of the West Virginia miner tragedy?? I chose Fox News and Geraldo (puke) over her. Something’s wrong at MSNBC.
It is more sad folks that people watch her….everything she does is for a quick tear, a quick sound bite or a quick shock.

I’m so glad to see that it’s not only me. Rita Cosby has the most annoying voice I’ve ever heard. I regularly watch (and enjoy) MSNBC, and MSNBC.com is the best news site I’ve found. Unfortunately, from 8:00 to 9:00 (I’m in central time) I refuse to watch this cow butcher the English language under the pretense of journalism. She sounds like an asthmatic choking on a nerf ball. I hate her.
I just found this site. I too am very annoyed with Rita Cosby’s voice. I think it’s a medical issue for sure. It drive’s me crazy to watch her talk, It’s like she’s sucking in her throat in and forcing out what ever she can vocally. I too wonder if she’s asthmatic. You can hear the gasping as she struggle’s to speak.

I too am so glad I found this site. Rita Cosby makes me feel as though I am having shortness of the breath or as if I’m drowning. Every time she takes a breath you can hear it over and above everything else that she is saying. It is a most uncomfortable feeling and makes you not be able to take in the actual interview that is going on. When she goes off you feel as if you just ran 20 miles. Plus, she does not fit the image of my perception of a TV news person. Maybe radio would suit her better.
It’s unfortunate that Rita has a voice problem. She does sound like a Giraff with sore throat. But she be pitied, not chastized. Don’t we all have some kind of infirmities?

I never knew so many people felt the same way about this lady. I thought maybe she had a tracheotomy that left her with the voice of Betty Davis on her death bed. Nevertheless she does not need to be speaking on TV. Maybe the network is trying to fill some type of diability quota but they could have found someone with a gimp leg not a frog’s voice.
Fox News is my favorite program. I was delighted when she left, but could not understand why they kept here so long. I was quite shocked to find that there were many who felt the same. She should have another vocation, since she is inept at journalism, never mind her voice.

Folks…I can’t stand to listen to her voice either and as a speech language pathologist, I would guess she has vocal cord nodules. She needs to see an ENT and a speech/voice therapist. Rita Cosby has the MOST AWFUL VOICE for T.V. I literally run to change channels when I hear her come on. I really do not know how she was hired.
I heard a snippet of a piece she did 5 years ago during 9/11 broadcast and her voice was fine. Not sure what is going on with her voice but I can tell you I very aware of people’s voices. I suffered a vocal cord injury which altered my voice permanently. I wouldn’t listen to myself on TV no less Rita who sounds worse than me. Unless she has some kind of nodule, tumor or disease and is covered under Disabilities Act, she should apply for disability and get out of the business! It’s painful to listen to her because I know she is struggling to get air through her cords to get a sound. I’m better looking and highly educated and I doubt anyone would hire me for my own talk show no less let me answer their phones so not sure why she’s bringing in the big bucks on TV. It’s time to pack it in Rita, your too painful to watch!

Listening to Rita tonight talk about “The Dogs” arrest. First her voice is so fricking annoying. Can you say “Honey, clear your throat”. Then she must of said “3 years ago” and “again” 40 times in the 4 minute video. Have to say, there has got to be a better newscaster to fill her shoes. Let’s hope.
I don’t know who’s worse, Nancy Grace or Rita Cosby. Nancy Grace not only has an obnoxious voice and personality but her integrity as a journalist is completely nonexistent. I know less about Rita Cosby and regardless of her journalistic skills her voice is absolutely not suited for mass media.. medical condition or not, it’s not good for ANYONE.. her or us. I wince everytime I hear her and Nancy Grace should team up with Jerry Springer.
I do not understand how such a dislike for a TV personality can continue on as that. What is MSNBC thinking? This is by far the worst possilbe thing for their ratings, not to mention the American public. I used to have to watch MSNBC at my work on a TV visible to the public who comes in. After Rita was hired on to the MSNBC team we had to switch the channel to CNN because not only was she annoying to listen to, but SHE WAS EXTREMELY ANNOYING TO LISTEN TO. MSNBC needs to re-think the way they hire their people. What on earth are they thinking, and what could Rita be thinking? The entire American community who knows of her thinks she is not just terrible to listen to and to look at, but also that she is a bad reporter. I’ll never watch MSNBC again, just because of her.
The voice. Apparently due to a medical condition. That is very unfortunate for Ms. Cosby. One can tell that she seems physically uncomfortable talking and breathing. Why she chose her professional one can only wonder. More perplexing is why she was hired in the first place. Her struggle to speak, the voice that sounds as though she is choking only serve to make the listener physically and mentally uncomfortable and to distract from the story being delivered. If she insists upon staying in the news field, then it should be behind the camera, not in front of it.

Notice that none of these have anything to do with her being a woman. She’s just terrible at her job and should look at another line of work.
I watched Rita on Fox for years, and her voice wasn’t this way. I believe she is ill and have sympathy for her. I hope she is able to recover from whatever is wrong.

I’ll be darned… I’m not going to say that I thought I was the only one who noticed the way she speaks. I did however, think I was the only one who was soooooo annoyed by it. I don’t even watch MSNBC anymore. I don’t hate her like some have suggested, and I do feel sorry for her condition, but MSNBC should really rethink her time slot. It is truly an hour of unwatchable television. Thank God for Law and Order SVU reruns on the USA Network.

I thought that this Rita person had a throat problem, but from what I have been reading, she always talks that way. I cannot make any comment as I never watch her, but her voice is something else. Rita’s voice makes me wonder, who was at the helm making the decisions. Hey this voice is great for TV. Her voice sounds like she smokes hemp ropes. At first I thought she was sick but after her long run now, I realize that this is just how she is. I feel sorry for her, but am quite honestly shocked at MSNBC for allowing it to continue no matter her skill she does not belong on the air in a speaking role. If vocal quality was the main issue, I wouldn’t listen to Diane Rehm on NPR. Diane has a severe neurological disorder that affects her speech. As difficult as it is to listen to sometimes, she is a brilliant woman who knows how to interview. She’s a REAL journalist with REAL talent.
Rita, on the other hand, is the most annoying person ever. It’s not her voice, it’s that she’s a hack. She has no journalistic integrity. It is my hope that one night I will be watching Keith Olbermann and she will be ranked as the “Worst Person in the World” (because she is).

No one has mentioned the change MSNBC made with Rita’s shtick after they “stole” her from Murdochsville. She was stopped from saying “my sources tell me” over and over and over again. Her voice problem has to be a cancer thing or else the elocution coach at the station wouldn’t tolerate it. I am here because I googled her name for info about why she’s not on the air — or maybe she is but way past my bedtime.

She won 3 emmys, interviewed many presidents, investigates on very important topics in the world, is currently donating money to charities and her voice is very healthy now. So honestly, do you really think saying her voice is annoying, or calling her fat make you a better person? In case you folks have never noticed Rita Cosby is actually a guy… in drag. I’ve been convinced of that for a long time. Think about it. She sounds like Burgess Meredith (while also trying to sound feminine) and looks more masculine than half the dudes out there. Her facial features and bone structure are all characteristically male. In fact she looks less feminine than Kurt Russell did in the drag scene of “Tango and Cash”. Bravo to MSNBC for finally having enough sense to heed complaints about a host that the vast majority of viewers despise. Now if they can just follow it up by sending that nasally twink David Shuster on his way, their news broadcasts might be watchable again. He looks and sounds like Felix Unger trying to clear his nasal passages (the Tony Randall TV version). Even Fox News had enough sense to get rid of that wormy little nebbish in 2002. Apparently when Fox News fires someone for any reason, that’s the only qualification needed for MSNBC to hire them.

It was time for Rita Cosby to go….Her broadcast style is to focus on sensationalism — not true journalism. There is obviously something wrong with her vocal cords, voice box or airways. She seems to struggle to speak — gasping for air and forcing words. Outside of the audio, she was not/is not visually appealing — and I’m a heterosexual woman. She is overweight (which probably adds to her struggle for air), her hair always showed roots and she was an unkept mess. I think the term “cow” is applicable. Based on Rita’s lack of professional demeanor she may want to try her hand at a full time position with the National Enquirer — printed smut articles are more her style. She has no place on network or cable tv, and I think MSNBC drew the same conclusion or else they would have sweetened the pot and tried to retain her.
