Death Toll Now 2000

The US death toll in the Iraq War (conflict seems to be better since Bush declared victory) has now reached the 2,000 milestone. It was thought that when the death toll hit 1,000 last year, the American people would somewhat revolt against the Bush administration. Sadly, that didn’t happen. Will it now? Will the blood of the young American troops lost in the battle make the Bush administration start thinking more clearly? What have we gained? Let’s also think about the countless civilians that have been killed. Heck, what about the coalition forces that has faced causalities.

I still can’t find reason for us still being in Iraq. I understand we need to help the Iraq government gain control over the security within Iraq. Shouldn’t we be playing more of a supportive role in the fight against the terrorists in Iraq? We currently have around 135,000 troops stationed in Iraq. That’s far too many to be just “supportive”. It sounds like we leading the way and the troops are suffering because of that. It’s time to come home. It’s time to start pulling out. I am not saying let’s let the Iraqy people fend for themselves. I am saying let’s support them, not do it for them.

“Our armed forces are serving ably in Iraq under enormously difficult circumstances, and the policy of our government must be worthy of their sacrifice. Unfortunately, it is not, and the American people know it,” said Sen. Edward Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat. News Source: MSNBC
