Cingular To Become AT&T

CingularThis should be fun for the “good ‘ol boys club”. They are going to hate this! There is one person who I would love to send the news to, but it wouldn’t be too professional of me. Instead, I am laughing my ass off in my cube wanting to tell him to f*** off and welcome back to AT&T.

NEW YORK — SBC (SBC), which closed its merger with AT&T on Friday, plans to sell Cingular Wireless under the fabled AT&T name, Ed Whitacre, the chairman and CEO of the combined company, has confirmed to USA TODAY.

Update: a Cingular spokesman gave a statement to RCR News stating…

“we are continuing with the strong Cingular brand that we have spent the past five years building and promoting.”

We’ll see how this plays out. SBC/AT&T still owns a large portion of Cingular while BellSouth owns the remaining percentage. Both companies had to fork out billions for the Cingular/AT&T Wireless merger of last year.
