Partially Moved In

Jay and I spent yesterday loading up a 14’ U-Haul truck with his stuff. The truck was full. When we drove it back over to Bellevue, I recalled that the landlord offered to me that we could throw some stuff in the house. To make sure it was still cool, I called the landlord at about 3:45 to double check. He told us no problem, but to make sure the windows can be access so the blinds can be hung and that there was walking room. We had Jay’s stuff piled up in the corners of a couple bedrooms. Everything was still accessible and what not. While we were unloading the truck, the gardener was also there finishing up the yards. When he was all done, he called the landlord’s wife and informed her that he was complete. The gardener told her that he already spoke with the renters. Well, that didn’t sit well with her.

“Are you the renters…I mean, potential renters?” she asked. She then asked what we were doing. I explained to her that we spoke with her husband and received permission to move some stuff in, but had to make sure the house was locked up and the windows could be accessed still for the blinds to be installed. We were not actually moving in, but throwing some stuff in the house. It appeared we were moving in since we had some furniture going in, but no one is staying at the house. The one bed is up against the walls, and the boxes are neatly stacked in a corner. Apparently, the landlord and his wife have not been on the same page with this house. She told me she hasn’t even checked references nor checked to see if my security deposit check cleared. Did I mention she was a CPA? I didn’t tell her, but she needs to know this: the lease has been signed by me, Jay, and her husband. That equates to a legal contract if you will. Anyway, after she talked to her husband and got everything clarified, she said “I am sorry for giving you the third degree.” I told her I totally understood. After we were done and the house was locked up, I called the landlord and left him a voicemail apologizing for the miscommunication. Haven’t heard from him yet, but I assume all is well.

Nothing ever seems to be going right with these rental houses. It’s about to drive me to drink! Too much stress involved for something that doesn’t need to be so stressful. All I want to do is move in and be done. They got their money, so show me the keys. I am halfway considering getting a cashiers check for the first and last months rent. That way, she knows money is available in the account to support the check. Grr boo hiss…
