DirecTV R15

My DirecTV R15 DVR arrived today. If you are used to the TiVo based DVRs, then this new DirecTV DVR will take some getting used to. The menu system is completely different. What was once ’season pass’ is now considered a ’series link’. All your recordings are now stored in a menu called ‘MyVOD’. It still takes about 24 hours to download the guide, but so far, no dial-out has been requested. Within the first 5 minutes of being plugged in, the DVR automatically recoginized a new software version being available for download. I have noticed that you can’t switch between tuners like you could on the TiVo boxes. If you are recording on tuner 1, the DVR will automatically switch to tuner 2 when you change channels.

The DirecTV R15 offers 100 hours of recording time. It supports 2 tuners like the TiVo branded DVRs. The R15 also supports optical audio out. One of the best features is the NFL Sunday Ticket interactive options.
