Another Missile Crises

Once again history seems to be repeating itself. This time, it’s on something a little more nerve racking. Today, the United States [specifically Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice] called the potential long-range nuclear missile test by North Korea “a provocative act.” Unlike the times of the Cuban Missile Crises when the United States had somewhat of a foreign policy, the USA will most likely play the bully with North Korea. This all comes after the United States has learned that North Korea has finished fueling a long-range ballistic missile. The United States believes that this missile has the range to reach the soil of the USA.

Although the three-stage Taepodong 2 could theoretically reach the U.S. West Coast, most experts think North Korea is still a long way off from perfecting the technology that would make the missile accurate and able to carry a nuclear payload. Source: MSNBC

The words, the story, the plot, all remind of the events that took place during the Cuban Missile Crises. I did not live through those times, however we did study the events extensively in school. Our biggest problem right now is that we don’t know much. We don’t know the true intentions of North Korea. We don’t know if they will test this missile or if this is just a stunt.

They say to not show the cards in your hand while playing poker, but it appears that North Korea has a strong hand. I really hope, and pray, that other nations will step forward and assist in the negotiations with North Korea. Let’s keep this diplomatic and not threat each other with nuclear war.
