Smart Cars in the USA?
A report claims that Smart Cars may be introduced into the United States starting in 2007. DaimlerChrysler is the manufacturer rumored to bring Smart Cars to the United States; however, they refuse to comment on the report.
Introducing smart cars to the American public would be a great idea I think. Americans are used to consuming as much fuel as humanly possible, but a change in this lifestyle would be welcomed by me. It would be interesting to see if I would fit into a smart car, but to be honest, I would definitely consider it. Hopefully, with more Americans considering Smart Cars, that might lower the overall global demand on oil and thus bring fuel prices down for all countries. Smart cars, being a tiny two-seater, offer an estimated 46.3 miles per gallon in the city to 70.6 mpg on the highway. Compare that to my gas guzzling 10 to 15 mpg on my Chevrolet Avalanche.
Obviously the driving force for purchasing a smart car would be the price. I don’t want to pay around $20K for a small car that wouldn’t allow me to hold anything in it. We’ll see what happens, but I really hope American do have the option to purchase smart cars. It never hurts for buyers to have options, but then again the sellers are going to need to turn some kind of profit. I wonder how safe smart cars are in crashes?
