Comcast Digital Voice

I had the Comcast Digital Voice service installed at my house. The Digital Voice service is essentially a VoIP service, however with the Comcast product, the internet traffic for phone service is processed on a dedicated server and kept seperate from the public cable internet lines. They also support E911.

So far I got to say it’s great! People have said that the call quality is much better - compared to my old Qwest service. The house I am living in has really old telco lines - probably originally installed when house was built - and the call quality and volume from my end is dramatically better. The Digital Voice service is also a little cheaper compared to Qwest with long distance bundled.

The cool thing is I get to use my existing phone equipment. You can use any phone you want. They had to replace my cable modem because the telephony modems support both data & voice plus have a built in battery in case of a power outage. This is to ensure that we could call 911, but if we loose power, my cordless phones won’t work anymore.

The service for about 6 months will be $33 per month which includes 12 features (voicemail, caller ID, call waiting caller ID, etc. etc.). I also get unlimited long distance within the continental United States. After the promotional period, the monthly charge will be about $45 per month. This is still a little cheaper the my old phone service.
