Tough Week For The Right

While browsing the Washington Post website, I found an interesting article where the claims of Iraq having ties to Al-Qaeda have been discounted. This really shouldn’t be a shocker for anyone but, this has really been a tough week for the Iraq War justification. The week started out with “Premier Bush” having his Q&A session with the press. When the president was making his typical statements where he mentions Iraq, Al-Qaeda, and September 11 in the same breath. A reporter just about cuts him off and asks the president - what does Iraq have to do with September 11? Answer: “nothing”. The president also acknowledged again that Iraq didn’t have the weapons of mass destruction.

The next time you have a debate with some naive right-wing conservative who thinks Bush is a direct descendant of Reagan, the following arguments may no longer used:

  1. Iraq housed weapons of mass destruction. Can’t use this one anymore. Bush spoke the words out of his own mouth that Iraq did not have any WMDs. Sorry, your own president admitted to it.
  2. Saddam Hussein had ties to Al-Qaeda. If you read the article you’ll find that this has been discredited.

Debate is healthy; so will you please not use those two excuses and bring some new justifications for this war? Both supporters and non-supporters of the Iraq War have a right to speak their mind. I am just saying that it would be nice to use facts when making these claims. The world doesn’t need any more Bill O’Reilly’s.
