Democrats Faced Some Real Questions

Some might find that last nights CNN Democratic Debate with questions submitted via YouTube to be wacky, but I thought it was a great idea and it worked well. The questions submitted by the people were a heck of a lot more blunt and honest than what we’ve seen in previous debates. I found the debate to be entertaining especially when the candidates were faced with the tough questions. Let’s be honest, the Democrats played a lot of politics last night by dancing around a lot of questions and not directly answering the tough ones. One of the many great questions asked was why the Democrats have done nothing for 7 months after receiving their marching orders during the last mid-term elections. Their scripted and expected response – blame the Republicans.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D – Ohio), probably the most ‘left’ person on the floor last night, was beyond irritating. He sounded like he was trying to replace Ryan Seacrest on American Idol as he kept talking about “texting the word PEACE to xxxxx”. Shut up and debate dude!

I felt that Sen. Joe Biden (D – Delaware) was the most entertaining out of all them. He had no problem telling people exactly what he felt without any fluff. I don’t think he has much of a chance, but I sure appreciate his honest answers. He was definitely braver than the other candidates with his very direct and off collar comments about the people submitting the questions. An entertaining politician doesn’t mean that you are presidential.

It’s obvious that the Democratic Party will have either Obama, Clinton, or Edwards as their nominee. I think Obama really separated himself from the rest of the pack. It is my opinion that Obama will be the Democratic nominee in a close race between him and Hillary Clinton. This country has been ruled by a Bush and a Clinton for too long. We need change, and a lot of change in the white house. We need to move in a whole new direction. The current status-quo is just not working anymore.

The issues that matter most to me are domestic. I want to hear the candidates’ views and plans on healthcare, global warming, and other economic issues.

On a side note - thank you CNN for not having Wolf Blitzer host the debate. Anderson Cooper did a great job!

Which candidate do you think will win the Democratic Presidential nominee?

I really would love to see Obama get the nomination (and I feel he should) but unfortunately, I don’t think he will. I’m almost thinking Clinton will get the nomination as a goof (sorry Hillary).

Yes the Democrats will have Clinton and the Republicans…TBA. A classic match up of dumb and dumber with the joke being on the electorate. Of course our favorite candidate will bring world peace, universal health care, a greener world, a brighter tomorrow, more internets, bring the dead to life, etc., etc., ad nauseam… only to be disappointed when we find that they are mortal being with faults. I admit I only have a passing interest in the current horse race going only because nothing they say really scratches the surface of what the future will be bringing to our nation.

Tough choice will be made that no politician nor the public will have the guts to make….our economy is driven by credit driving deficits and debt on an increasingly weakened dollar and a generation of baby boomers retiring straining resources to pay for all the entitlements, how will that be resolve or reconciled? In the field of foreign policy, we have become overextended with a war in Iraq that is draining the military and treasury without end, the very likely confrontation with Iran that will have been started by the outgoing President, what will be our new course?

I dont really find the things politician say in a debate all that informative or an indicator of the type of leader he or she will be, its popularity contest for the masses. Furthermore a President is only as effective as the legislative body in power soooo for all their promises Congress has its own agenda.

I am not saying the sky is falling but if we, as an electorate, are not careful in our choices, not only in a President but our representatives, then we shall reap what we sow. It was said once that…”if the people lead, leaders will follow”. So lets lead!
