When It Rains, It Pours
Oh how I wish things were going to start getting easier. Instead, they seem to get worse. Last week was one of the most trying weeks I have encountered since starting my new job. Comes with the territory of a high-paced worked environment, but last week had a number of people nervous. The gist of the whole matter, without going into too many details, is we were not meeting our metrics as a result of a large number of uncontrollable factors. Another issue we had was management was not unified on a direction and as a result, a lot of people have suffered; including our metrics. After long hours and a lot of manual work, we met our mark this week. Great I thought, but then it all changed…
Since we were able to turn around our results so promptly and with such great advancement, the leadership team has decided to lean on our team to ensure the entire department exceeds the metrics. They have also raised the bar to an unprecedented level in hopes of making these metrics. Is the request doable? With hesitation - I think it is, but it sure won’t be easy. I am not saying that the request from leadership is impossible, I am just saying that it’s going to be tough.
The new goal for all of us is essentially perfection. If that’s what they want, that’s what I shall strive for and I know the team I am on will do the same. Hopefully the financial impacts of this new direction doesn’t come back to haunt us later on.
